Destiny Casson

Destiny Casson of Indianapolis, IN, is an alumna of Howard University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor concentration in African Studies. Destiny is a Fulbright Research Award to Brazil recipient (2019-20) and a Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellow (2015-16). Destiny holds memberships in Phi Beta Kappa Society (Gamma Chapter), the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi), and Women4Change IUPUI Chapter (where she serves as the 2021-22 Vice President of Empowerment). Destiny is a former Apprentice for Deeply Rooted Dance Theater where she worked under the tutelage of Nicole Clark-Springer, Kevin Iega Jeff, and Gary Abbott. She has performed works by Nejla Yatkin, Kevin Iega Jeff, Nicole Clark- Springer, Elana D. Anderson, PhD., Ronne Stone, and Emmy- nominated choreographer, Jeffrey Page, amongst others. Her choreographic credits include the productions, The Tiger Who Wore White Gloves (the brainchild of Nora Brooks Blakely), Eye of the Storm (written by McKinley Johnson), Stand Up! (written by Phyllis Curtwright), and After/Life (written and produced by Lisa Biggs). Destiny’s research and professional ventures operate at the intersection of Africana Studies, decolonial thought and praxis, Black feminism/womanism, mental health, medical humanities, and the arts. She is currently a graduate student of the Medical Humanities and Health Studies Program at Indiana University.
